The Prophet's Mercy Towards Children 28/02/2010

There are numerous recorded instances of the love of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) for children. In his book, ‘Muhammad: Prophet and Statesman’, the Orientalist W. Montgomery Watt writes (page 229): "He (Prophet Muhammad) seems to have been especially fond of children and to have got on well with them. He was also attached to his younger cousin 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, who had been a member of his household. For a time a grand-daughter called Umamah was a favorite. He would carry her on his shoulder during the public prayers, setting her down when he bowed or prostrated, then picking her up again. ... more

Prophet Muhammad: A True Role Model 28/02/2010

In the early years of Muhammad’s prophethood there was fierce persecution at the hands of the polytheists of Makkah. Muhammad and the new Muslims suffered terribly from chastisement, ridicule, slander, an unjust boycott and physical torture. In spite of this, Muhammad remained steadfast, patient and took a non-reproachful attitude throughout those 14 years. Even some of his relatives took part in the vanguard of assailants. ... more

Prophet Muhammad: A Pioneer of the Environment 28/02/2010

There is none amongst the believers who plants a tree, or sows a seed, and then a bird, or a person, or an animal eats thereof, but it is regarded as having given a charitable gift [for which there is great recompense].” [Al-Bukhari]. The idea of the Prophet Mohammed (peace be upon him) as a pioneer of environmentalism will initially strike many as strange: indeed, the term “environment” and related concepts like “ecology”, “environmental awareness” and “sustainability”, are modern-day inventions, terms that were formulated in the face of the growing concerns about the contemporary state of the natural world around us. ... more

Do You Know This Man? 08/03/2009

History has recorded the appearance and deeds of many religious leaders: Moses, Jesus Christ, Zoroaster, and Abraham, to name just a few. There have also been many self-proclaimed prophets and messengers, each of whom has claimed to bring a divine revelation for mankind. Some have proven to be false, and others have been forgotten. ... more

A Mercy to the Worlds 08/03/2009

Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) was an illiterate but wise and well-respected man, a member of the ruling Quraysh tribe, who was born in Makkah in the year 570 C.E., at a time when Christianity was not yet fully established in Europe . He was orphaned at an early age and then raised by his uncle Abu Talib. ... more

It Is Reported That The Prophet Said… 08/03/2009

One often reads “It is reported that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said…” or similar words. These reports are known as Hadiths (meaning “statements”, but often called Traditions in English). They have been handed down to us from the Companions, the Muslims who lived at the time of the Prophet. ... more
